If you are looking for a comfort and tranquillity and something different as well, let’s hike through the mountains, watching lagoons, streams, native forest, mountain rocks and snow-capped mount, you have we “LARES VALLEY”. At Inca time the Quechuas used this path to go and trade products to the jungle. Nowadays you could find communities who are farmers and craftsman as well. Communities where you will have the chance to see how people still are using ancient techniques for making the textiles. Lares trek one of the principal’s trail to the jungle.

 

ITINERARY:

FIRST DAY: CUSCO – CALCA – LARES – HUACAWASI

(3400 – 2950 – 3276 – 3812 masl / 11154 – 9678 – 10748 – 12506 feet)

We pick you up from de hotel where you are staying, after we drive by 1 hour in our private van and stopping in Calca (2950 meters / 9678 feet) for a while to find some staff which you could need on the trail. Them driving by 2 hour to LARES (3276 meters / 10748 feet) town which is the starting point of the trek, having the lunch at the Hot Spring because once ready the hike is beginning, the first part will be easy as everyone of the tour packages, a little uphill but nothing serious. And after 3 hours and an half we are getting to Huacawasi community place of textile craftsman. This night is going to be cold because we camp at 3812 masl = 12 506 feet, -2 C° degrees.

 

SECOND DAY: HUACAWASI – IPSAYQOCHA PASS – PATACANCHA

(3812 – 4480 –3807 masl / = 12756 – 14700 –12490 feet)

Once we survived the first night we have good breakfast and once ready let’s hike having a nice uphill by 3 hour watching the big snow-capped mountains which are around, once on the top, I mean Ipsayqocha pass (4480 masl / 14700 feet) our challenge will be done, and them will be easy because is downhill, we have lunch next to the Ipsayqocha lagoon, next 2 hours hiking getting to camping spot in Patacancha community. Dinner in the night. We sleep at 3807 masl.

No really cold night but our warm clothes will work good.

 

THIRD DAY: PATACANCHA – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES / MACHUPICCHU TOWN

(3807 – 2850 – 2040 masl / 12490 – 9350 – 6692 feet)

This day won’t be hard because if you are tired is possible to take a car otherwise keep the plan, hiking to Ollantaytambo by 4 hours all the way down once there,  lunch in an traditional place in Ollantaytambo will be great. Ollantaytambo is consider as “Inca living city”, because people still are living in ancient Inca building. After lunch you will have free time to explore Ollantaytambo because after we have to go train station, we should be 30 minutes prior departure time.  The journey by train will last around 2 hours, once in Machu Picchu we take to you to the hotel where you are going to stay.

 

QUARTER DAY: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO

(2040 – 2400 – 3400 meters / 6692 – 7874 – 11154 feet)

This morning you will have the chance to decide HOW TO GO TO MACHU PICCHU? Because there 2 options: by bus or hiking as well. Once in Machu Picchu, we could say “We are still alive, we’ve survived the Lares Inca trek”. Having 2 hours of guiding tour and free time as well, because you will want to explore by self too. After you experience in Machu Picchu you are coming back to Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu Town.

Remember, you must be at train station 30 minutes prior departure time, once in Ollantaytambo our driver will be waiting for you.
